Accounting Intern

Position Purpose

The Accounting Intern will support the day-to-day operations within Bassett Mechanical’s accounting department, with hands-on experience opportunities within the accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions. 

 

Position Responsibilities

    Accounts Receivable

  • Processing of customer receipts and credit card remittances.
  • Provide support to Company processes to maintain up-to-date customer information.
  • Provide support to this team as needed, which may include customer follow-ups on past-due balances, assistance with customer billings, and/or system set-ups of customers.

     Accounts Payable

  • Processing of vendor accounts payable invoices, including follow-up on invoice to purchase order discrepancies.
  • Review and post tool and inventory costs to jobs.
  • Provide support to this team as needed, which may include review of vendor statements, invoice and credit memo follow-ups, cost transfers, and/or purchase order closing procedures.

     Payroll

  • Review and validate labor-hour entries submitted by employees.  Follow-up with employees on questions and/or entry exceptions.
  • Update and distribute payroll hours reporting.
  • Provide support to this team as needed, which may include system table updates, review of company vehicle mileage postings, and/or hours transfers.

     Other

  • Attend continuous improvement meetings and contribute suggestions observed.
  • Support and complete any special projects assigned.
  • Complete a report-out of internship experience according to Company format.
  • Support and maintain a safe and lean working environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Summary of Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Accounting.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Efficient software skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook. 
  • Ability to handle confidential Company information with integrity.
  • Highly effective in a team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills.
