
Titan Captain- Student Orientation Leader
2023 Titan Captain Position
Position Summary:
Titan Captains serve as a mentor and role model for new students. They facilitate conversations about what it means to be a UW Oshkosh student, help new students get to know each other, provide leadership for the Titan Welcome Crew, and assist in the overall delivery of the Titan Takeoff, Titan Camp, and Titan Welcome programs
Compensation and Benefits:
• $13 per hour
• $100 Titan Dollars
• On Campus Housing available if needed
• New Student and Family Programs staff apparel
• Lunch during each of the Titan Takeoff program dates
• Leadership, public speaking, and relationship building experience
• Build professional relationships with faculty, staff, and other students
Time Commitments:
*All trainings, meetings and programs are required. Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis with New Student & Family Programs.
Trainings & Team Meetings:
*Depending on class schedules we will have 1-hour weekly training during the spring semester of 2023 and will have training in May following the Spring semester.
• Weekly 1 - hour training class (March - May)
• Monday May 15th 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
• Tuesday May 16th 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
• Wednesday May 17th 8:00 am – 4:00 pm
• Thursday May 18th 8:00 am – 4:00 pm and Professional Dinner at 6:30 pm in Reeve!
*Titan Takeoff program dates (Freshmen & Transfer Dates): 7:45 AM – 4:45 PM

*Admissions (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM)

Requirements:
• Enrolled as a UWO student for Fall 2023
• Good Academic Standing
• Completed at least one full semester at UWO by June 2023
• Remain in good disciplinary status with UWO
• Ability to work effectively with groups and individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Engaged in on-campus or community co-curricular experiences
Expectations:
• Reliable, prompt, and display good decision-making skills
• Positive and enthusiastic attitude about the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh and new student programs
• Actively engaged in staff trainings, meetings and student programs
• Make announcements and facilitate discussion and activities in a variety of formal and informal settings
• Supportive and understanding of the struggles of students transitioning form high school to college
• Perform work both independently and as a member of a team
• Facilitate a small group presentation to new students during Titan Takeoff on campus resources
• Hold team members accountable as part of the New Student & Family Programs staff
• Serve as a role model for new students to include abiding by all UWO policies and local/state laws. Failure to abide to University policies and/or state/federal law, may be cause for removal from the position. Titan Captains are expected to work collaboratively and respectfully with all university personnel and to represent themselves and UWO in an appropriate and respectful manner in all communications and programs (including UWO and personal Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)
