SEEKING: Work Study or Student Assistants

Description:

The Department of Advertising, Multimedia Journalism & Public Relations (AMP) requests a multimedia storytelling intern for the following activities:

- Work with students and faculty to create online interactive content for storytelling to support recruitment initiatives for creative careers

- Develop blog content, digital stories, graphics, short video and photos related to creative career themes

- Produce writing and graphics - Work with department for reviews and approvals

Qualifications: 

Candidates must demonstrate:

- Strong writing, editing and creative skills

- Self-motivated and quick learner

- Ability to handle deadline pressure with grace and good humor

-  Work with department for reviews and approvals

- Savvy in social media world (Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, TikTok, etc.)

- Experience in photography and videography

Learning Outcomes: 

As a multimedia intern, a student will gain skills that are in high demand in the fields of digital media for journalism, public relations and advertising, as well as other creative career areas.

Specifically, these skills include:

- Creative writing and visual design

- Learning ways to communicate with new media tools

- Project management

- Collaboration with department members and audiences

- Online research

- Interpersonal communication

The outcomes align with two essential learning outcomes

– critical and creative thinking; and written and oral communication – as well as others, such as teamwork, leadership and problem solving; and technology and information literacy.

In this position, the student will develop creative online content thoughtful about audiences and the goals of the project, based on research and best practices for web info and social media info. These activities come together to provide growth in critical and creative thinking about content development, and using creative written and oral communication with those audiences (in content) and the department (in research, reporting results and getting insights to improve). These learning outcomes will be measured through performance evaluations with the student, both pre- and post-position.
