Summer 2024 - PreCollege Programs Assistant Team Leader

The PreCollege Programs consist of eight academic residential programs and two commuter programs for middle and high school students from multicultural and diverse socioeconomic backgrounds to explore higher education. The Assistant Team Leader will assist the Team Leader in overseeing approximately 12-14 Resident Assistants and 2 Night Hosts to ensure that the PreCollege participants are receiving the care and assistance needed to have a holistic and positive experience in the summer programs. This position reports directly to the Team Leader. The position is a minimum of two weeks, seven days a week, 24 hours a day supervising, guiding, and ensuring the safety of middle and high school students and staff as they engage in classes, field trips, and program activities. You are required to stay in the residence halls during the totality of the PreCollege Programs. Assists in activity planning and leads students in program events to fully support the goals of the PreCollege Programs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plans, leads and coordinates program events
  • Leads and supports students as they participate in activities
  • Monitors students to ensure compliance with program rules and to prevent accidents
  • Cleans, maintains, and ensures proper use of facilities and equipment
  • Reports and records details of incidents to appropriate stakeholders
  • Follows all emergency procedures and enforces camp rules
  • Enforce the rules, regulations, and policies of the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, PreCollege Programs and Residence Life.
  • Attend meetings/trainings as required with PreCollege Administrative Team, and Team Leader.
  • Attend and assist in precollege registration, orientation and award ceremonies.
  • Tutor students during designated study hour and monitor homework assignments.
  • Conduct daily bed checks and wake up calls.
  • Be able to communicate with parents, provide updates and answer questions about the programs.
  • Other duties assigned.

                                                                                         

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a current UW Oshkosh student
  • Have a minimum of 24 credits from UW Oshkosh, with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Adept at conflict resolution
  • Experience working with middle and high school students from multicultural and diverse socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to serve as a positive role model and mentor.

 

PREFEERED:

  • Experience as a Resident Assistant/Community Advisor, Camp Counselor or similar residential advisor position.  
  • Valid driver’s license and willing to transport students when necessary (strongly preferred).
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Hmong (preferred).
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitations (CPR) and First-Aid certified (preferred).
