Front Desk Specialist 

Front Desk Specialists are Career & Professional Development (CPD) and New Student and Family Programs’ (NSFP) front-line customer service providers. As a Front Desk Specialist, you will help create a friendly and welcoming office by greeting visitors, answering phone calls, and assisting in scheduling appointments. Front Desk Specialists will have the opportunity to present, train, and manage projects they take an interest and initiative in. Front Desk Specialists use career-related software, network with professionals, connect with organizations recruiting on campus, and assist in orientation related tasks.

The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh’s Career & Professional Development and New Student and Family Programs office serves students throughout the student life cycle. We work with students from the time of admission until they graduate. We foster student success through a holistic approach, supporting and celebrating students in all aspects of their life. Working with NSFP and CPD gives you the chance to collaborate with many different students, campus partners, and external groups. 

Qualifications 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills for customer service environment
  • Dependable, resourceful, and adaptable
  • Proficient computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and internet searching
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and solve problems
  • Coachable
  • Dedicated to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment

Essential Functions 

  • Troubleshoot student, faculty, staff, and employer inquiries in person, via email, and over phone
  • Recommend CPD resources to students regarding career-related topics such as resumes, cover letters, job searches, interviewing, etc.
  • Evaluate student resumes via VMock; a platform used by thousands of students annually at UW Oshkosh
  • Scrutinize the credibility of thousands of jobs via Handshake hiring platform to ensure students find credible professional development opportunities
  • Maintain multiple calendars, review and respond to email messages using Microsoft Outlook
  • Decipher data in Microsoft Excel and create, update, and manage Microsoft Word documents
  • Collaborate as a team to host events including mock interviews, career fairs, creating connections, tables of titans, company visits, and numerous other events
  • Outreach to students annually to complete the First Destination Survey to identify graduates post collegiate plans
  • Outreach to students to register for Titan Takeoff
  • Support orientation initiatives and programs
  • Additional duties as assigned

Job Details 

  • New employees will receive training and onboarding to ensure quality services
  • Part-time (8-10 hours per week)
  • Hours of Operations:
    • Academic Year (September - May)
    • Monday-Friday: 7:45-4:30pm
  • Willing to accommodate your class schedule and support you as a student and a person
  • Pay: $12 per hour
