  • In partnership with Health Promotion Staff, provides students access to select first aid supplies, over the counter medicines, and sexual health resources

 

Health Advocate Position Description

 

Position Summary:

A peer health educator that 

  • Educates students on health, wellness, and self-care topics by providing educational programming.
  • Refers students to on- and off-campus health and wellness resources.
  • In partnership with Health Promotion staff, provides students access to select first aid supplies, over-the-counter medicines, and sexual health resources. 

Time Commitment:

  1. Be committed to the program for at least one academic year.
  2. Approximately 15 hours per week while classes are in session.

Requirements:

  1. Demonstrated interest in health education.
  2. Sophomore status or better by Fall 2024.
  3. Maintain a 2.5 GPA or better.
  4. Maintain a credit load of 12-18 credits per semester.

Desired Outcomes:

  1. Educate UWO community on healthy behaviors.
  2. Provide basic health care supplies [first aid supplies and over-the-counter medication] to students.
  3. Provide referrals to students who need further resources on and off campus.
  4. Serve as part of a team to address community concerns.
  5. Address health and wellness related topics for diverse and underrepresented populations.

 

Job Duties

  1. Work collaboratively with various campus staff in providing direction and assistance to students for living a healthy lifestyle.
  2. Plan and implement education health/wellness programs and events for students.
  3. Serve as an effective role model for living a healthy lifestyle.
  4. Refer students to appropriate campus/community health resources.
  5. Document, track, and report all encounters.
  6. Maintain confidentiality of students as applicable.
  7. Attend August training.
  8. Attend evaluation meetings with direct supervisor each semester or as needed.
  9. Attend monthly group HA meetings.
