Residence Life Package Center Assistant

The Residence Life Package Center (RLPC) Assistant plays a crucial role in managing the distribution of packages and mail to students residing in the UW Oshkosh residence halls. This position involves handling incoming packages, coordinating with students for pickup, and maintaining an organized and efficient distribution process. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent customer service abilities. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Current student at UWO with a minimum 2.0 cumulative and semester GPA.
  • Must be in good disciplinary standing with the university. Candidates currently on disciplinary probation will not be considered.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic computer skills
  • Ability to lift and move packages of various sizes and weights, up to 30 lbs.
  • Availability 10-15 hours per week during regular business hours, evenings and weekends.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check and completion of all required hiring paperwork is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background knowledge of Byrnka mail software
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Availability during the weekdays between 9AM-1PM during the academic semesters.

Key Responsibilities

Package Reception and Handling:

  • Receive, sort, and organize packages and mail delivered to the RLPC.
  • Assist Postal Services staff with receiving, sorting and organizing packages delivered to campus.  
  • Verify and document package information, ensuring accurate tracking and logging in the system.
  • Load and unload packages from the Postal Services vehicle
  • Transport packages from Postal Services to the RLPC  

Student Interaction and Service:

  • Assist students with package pickup, verifying their identity and package details.
  • Address student inquiries and concerns regarding package status and distribution processes. 

Inventory Management:

  • Maintain accurate records of packages and mail, ensuring proper storage and timely distribution.
  • Monitor package storage areas to keep them organized and free of clutter.

 Customer Service:

  • Provide courteous and professional assistance to students and staff.
  • Handle package-related issues, such as misplaced items or delivery errors, in a prompt and effective manner. 

Administrative Duties:

  • Update and maintain records in the package management system.
  • Prepare reports on package volume and distribution metrics as needed. 

Facility Maintenance:

  • Ensure the RLPC area is clean, organized, and well-maintained.
  • Report any facility issues or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor. 

Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with other student employees and residence hall staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Participate in training sessions and staff meetings as required.
