Environmental Laboratory Assistant
Must be available to work 20 -40 hours in the summer of 2025.
Assist staff at the ERIC performing various environmental laboratory tests. Students will also learn to analyze data using Excel and other statistical programs. Field testing throughout WI may be required at various time intervals. Students will also help with writing reports for various research studies and commercial analysis.
Student Learning Outcomes:
1) This position will enhance students' critical thinking skills.
2) Give the students real world experience working at a state-of-the-art certified research and testing laboratory utilizing a wide variety of scientific equipment.
3) Experience in performing scientific methods for a variety of environmental matrices including water quality and biosolids related samples.
Qualified candidates should show evidence of:
- Knowledge of and ability to maintain safety standards in a laboratory setting
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience with Google Spreadsheets/Excel
- Willingness and ability to anticipate, identify, and adapt to change in a fast-paced working environment
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds
Job duties include, but are not limited to:
- Checking in laboratory samples, such as drinking water, compost, food waste, etc.
- Setting up laboratory samples
- Maintaining inventory and notifying staff when supplies are needed
- Performing analysis on laboratory samples using manual and automated methods
- Field work as needed
Preference will be given to those willing to work occasionally on weekends and breaks. Students in paid positions will need to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. Must be able to work 20 - 40 hours in the Summer of 2025.
